Cesar Viveros

Cesar E. Viveros-Herrera, born in Veracruz, Mexico, is a seasoned artist with over 25 years of experience creating public art in the U.S. and Mexico. Collaborating with the Philadelphia Mural Arts Program since 2000, his work reflects community stories and ideologies, translating them into powerful visual narratives.

Notable projects include the "Healing Wall" murals at Graterford Prison, documented in Concrete, Steel, and Paint, and murals addressing stigma at Maria de los Santos Health Care Center. In 2005, he created Philadelphia's first mural recognizing Mexican migration, intertwining art with activism. His "Imagining Frankford" project (2012-2013) used interviews to amplify local voices, and his Camden, NJ work highlights positive community stories.

Viveros also led the 2015 mural welcoming Pope Francis and visitors to the World Meeting of Families in Philadelphia. His personal art, rooted in syncretism and pre-Columbian heritage, spans murals, Aztec rituals, food justice workshops, and traditional Mexican crafts, connecting audiences to rich cultural narratives.
