Mario Figueroa
Mario Enrique Figueroa, Jr., known as GONZO247, is a self-taught multidisciplinary artist and Houston native with over 30 years of experience. Renowned for his vibrant murals, his work adorns neighborhoods in Houston, across Texas, and internationally.
A pioneer of Houston's graffiti and street art culture, GONZO247 produced the Aerosol Warfare video series documenting the scene during the 1990s and 2000s. He co-founded the Houston Wall of Fame, the city’s first dedicated graffiti art space, and has collaborated with major brands on urban-focused campaigns. His initiatives include founding the Graffiti and Street Art Museum (2015, in development), producing the Houston Urban Experience (HUE) Festival (2015–2019), and managing Aerosol Warfare Gallery and Studio.
GONZO247 has contributed to numerous community projects with organizations like Discovery Green, The Museum of Fine Arts Houston, and Project Row Houses. His awards include the Houston Press Best Art Curator (2012) and Best Public Art Project for his iconic mural Houston Is… (2013), which also earned a Silver ADDY Award. He has received accolades such as a City of Houston Proclamation (2016, 2018), Congressional Recognition (2018), and Preservation Houston's Good Brick Martha Peterson Award for restoring the 1973 mural The Rebirth of Our Nationality.
His art, influenced by his Houston upbringing, travels, and Mexican heritage, continues to resonate globally through public commissions, private collections, and collaborations that celebrate cultural diversity.
